As a language learner myself, I have many great memories of language courses that I took that included cultural topics in the curriculum. As a Spanish teacher for kids, I make sure that my curriculum includes cultural materials such as songs, food, traditions, crafts, celebrations, and more. As well, my students have fun learning and sharing their own culture in our online classroom.
Today, I want to share with you and your little Spanish learners some info on “La Pamplonada,” a well-known festivity in Spain.
In July over nine days, Spain celebrates the “Festival de San Fermín” in the northern city of Pamplona. The festival opens with a firework lit at the city hall. People wear a traditional white outfit and a red scarf, and everyone gathers in the streets to celebrate.
The most representative event of this festival is the running of the bulls. On the festival’s second day, the doors of the Santo Domingo farmyard’ are opened, and hundreds of people run in front of the loose bulls all the way to the “Plaza de Toros.” For those who are brave enough to participate, it is a risky yet exciting experience.
To help you learn more about this event, I have created some fun activities for your child. First, your little one will learn about the traditional red-and-white outfit that people wear during “La Pamplonada” while practising their colors with a coloring activity with my puppet friend Pancho. Then, your child will learn some key vocabulary words related to the festival. To receive your copy of these activities, enter your email in the “Want more learning resources?” section below.
Have fun learning!
